![]() Some moved their homes, but others just moved their belongings. 700 families had to move to make way for the lake. In fact, when the lake was built, it was actually built on top of communities. And Lake Lanier is named after Georgia native Sidney Lanier who was a poet and novelist. The Corps built the lake to manage navigation and flood control of the Chattahoochee River, provide hydroelectricity, and supply water for the city of Atlanta. Lake Lanier came to be in 1956, when the Corps of Engineers completed Buford Dam on the Chattahoochee River by blocking the water flow. It is a huge tourist destination and we welcome almost 12 million tourists each year. Lake Lanier is a 38,000 acre reservoir that is located about an hour north of Atlanta and spans through 5 counties, primarily Gwinnett, Hall and Forsyth in the foothills of the blue ridge mountains. To this day my hair stands on end when tell this story and I start to tremble when I think of it.What is life like on Lake Lanier? How big is it? Is it safe for my family and is there really a town under the lake? Today I’m answering all of those questions and more–including the most popular question I get which is ‘where are my favorite spots to eat at on the lake.’ Ok, no one asks me that but you should know! I sat there and watched and watched to see it she would reappear. The best part is that there was nowhere to go and hide in that time span. The rubbing of my eyes took maybe 5 seconds. I was thinking at this point there isn't any wind tonight and how can her dress and hair move like that with no wind! When I looked again she was gone. Ok, as all of this was sinking in, I thought that I am losing my mind. But, like I stated earlier any description wouldn't give it justice. The closest description on the hair and face would be the late great Veronica Lake. At one point I did get a short glimpse of her face. ![]() Her hair would move around her face as if it was caressing her face and neck. It would curl up on the ends near the ground as if a breeze was coming out of the ground. It flowed so, so, so beautifully around her body. ![]() The final straw was when I watched her dress. I was trying to justify it away in my head but the longer I watched the stranger her actions became. I remember thinking this must be a neighbor looking for a pet or something she lost. I never did see her feet the dress was right tight to the ground. She would move like she was not walking but more like floating. Then she would stop and stand perfectly still for a few seconds. On with the story.Īs I watched this woman, I kept thinking, what is going on here? She was in the courtyard bending down from time to time looking for something. Wavy, real wavy, and it almost seemed to have a life of its own. Another detail is that she was a blonde with shoulder length hair. However, I will say that it was a pale blue not a dark blue. To describe the color would not do it justice. I have NEVER seen any color so vivid before or after this experience. The blue dress was the most beautiful blue I have EVER seen. Now, let me clarify more details before I go on with the story. I guess the courtyard was about 50 to 75 yards away maybe less. With the noise gone, I saw a very beautiful lady in a flowing blue dress over in the courtyard. I then rolled over and looked out the window and saw what instantly caught my eye. I was growing very irritated by this noise that seemed to last forever. I remember that it seemed that this car was right outside my bedroom window. One particular night, well after night, I was rattled out of bed by a car with no muffler. I always slept with the windows open to catch any breeze that I could. I didn't have an air conditioner at the time and the heat made it hard to sleep. I lived in an upstairs apartment back in 1990.
